Beyond these, we will introduce you to lesser known but equally spectacular parks and private reserves, where you will never bump into other travellers . You can easily get away from the beaten path, witness unforgettable sunsets on the mighty Rufiji river in the Selous, see elephants and antelopes cavorting at the beach in Saadani, have close encounters with chimpanzees in Mahale and Gombe Stream or venture into remote Meru, Laikipia, Katavi or Ruaha, where you'll rarely see another vehicle.

A distinguishing feature of the region is the the Great Rift Valley , a massive fracture line in the earth's surface which runs from Jordan through Kenya and Tanzania to Mozambique and contains spectacular soda and fresh water lakes, interspersed by volcanoes.
